About the new map system which has been released in 2017
We released a new map system in March, 2017.
Until then, our map system showed the results of measurement on the day when we measured for each places.
In this system change, the data has been adjusted a to each year's March 11th with calculation of decay.
With this, we are able to provide map of March, 2011 (at the time of accident), now (2017), every 10 years prediction until 2041, and for 100 years later, 2111. Moreover, it enabled us to select bequel/kg and bequel/m2.
■Types of map that can be displayed
●Bq/kg Map - shows contamination level in bequel per kg of soil
●Bq/㎡ Map - shows contamination level in bequel per m2 of soil
●Atlas Map - Bq/㎡ map has been turned to match with Cs-137 contamination map from Ukrane.
■「About Bq level per kg and per ㎡
Usually measured data for Bq level are shown per kg.
To convert the measurement into per ㎡, we uses weight and mass of the soil sample.
In Minnna no Data Site, we took soil sample with the mass and weight of 5cm depth, and we calculated with Bq/kg to create Bq/㎡ Map.
Calculation formula: When the soil concentration is 1.3kg/litre (1,300kg/m3) , contamination level per weight (Bq/kg) = contamination level per area (Bq/㎡) ÷ [★depth of soil where it was taken 0.05m (5cm) × soil concentration 1,300kg/m3] when we calculate [★] it is 65.
■You can select the year as follows:
●2011 ●2017 (present year) ●2021 ●2031 ●2041 ●2111
■”Selectable regions”
●17 prefectures
●Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Niigata, Yamanashi, Nagano, Shizuoka
■”How to select the map”
You can select types of map, period, region on top-right of the page, and see a map of your choice.
Once you choose the three items, click “display the map with the items selected”.
■「”About the level of cecium 134 (half-life: 2.06years) on maps for each period”
Maps for 2011, 2017 and 2021 are shows the results of calculation of cesium 134 and 137’s half-life decay based on actual data
On the other hand, cesium 134 showed huge decay on the maps after the year of 2031, therefore, we decided not to put them on map with the consideration of cesium 137 being the standard on the maps from Ukraine and Belarus.
[attention] The paper version of 100 year maps shows only cesium 137 after map of 2011 which showed level of contamination by cesium 134 and 137 combined. Be mindful of that when comparing the paper version with online version.
■Plans from now
- Creating a choice to show only cesium 137 on the map.
- We are preparing to create a selection where you can choose to see cesium 134’s correct decay rate as some areas with high contamination may display some effects from them many years later.
■”About the slowness of loading the page”
It takes a little while until the page is loaded due to the size of map data. I am very sorry, but please hold on to the page for a while after you open them.
■”You cannot see the map on Internet Explorer”
The founder of Internet Explorer (Microsoft) has stopped developing the browser, so we recommend you to use another browser to use our website (for example, Firefox or google chrome). There are many free web browsers.
■”The map is still working in progress, so we will continue to develop for better”
There might be somethings that are inconvenient for you on this website, but please wait for us to improve.
