At the launching MDS, ideas for an MDS symbol character were collected.  

The design of the Marinelli container, an essential component of radiation measurement,
was selected from among many excellent ideas. 

A Marinelli container is exclusively designed for the measurement of radiation in food and soils.
Samples for measurement are put in a Marinelli container, and the container is put inside the measuring instrument. 

Marinelli Boy has a pit on top of his head, which is pictured as his nose.
The pit is oriented downward during measurement.  

Marinelli Boy was created through the collaboration of the originator and our design team.
